Blue bowl filled with White Chocolate Churro Popcorn

I love movie nights! Truly, there isn't a better way to spend a Saturday evening than with family and friends watching a great movie and, of course, eating the best of snacks. This White Chocolate Churro Popcorn is the absolute perfect treat for just these occasions. It's inexpensive, super easy to make, and the ingredients are almost always in the pantry.

I have found that this recipe is also a huge success at holiday parties and other celebrations. Again… it's inexpensive, easy, and fast. All the qualifiers for the perfect "serve a crowd" recipe. That's one reason it makes it on our list of Game Day Recipes! I've included party ideas and simple ideas to make the popcorn more festive in the Q&A section below.

Ingredients for white chocolate churro popcorn

Ingredients for popcorn on counter
  • Popcorn: I use an air popper to pop the kernels, but it can also be done in the microwave or on the stovetop.
  • White chocolate chips: My go-to brand is Ghirardelli, but any brand will do just fine.
  • Cinnamon: A little goes a long way!
  • Sugar: Just simple granulated sugar.

How to make white chocolate churro popcorn

Steps 1, 2, and 3 to make White Chocolate Churro Popcorn

This recipe can be broken down into three simple steps. First, melt the white chocolate in the microwave and mix it into the popped popcorn. Then add the cinnamon sugar mixture while the white chocolate is still wet. Give it a good stir and then spread it on a sheet pan to set. It's as simple as that.

For a crowd

This is a great recipe for a crowd since it is easy and cheap. If you double or triple the recipe, I suggest doing it in multiple batches (1 batch per large bowl) because it is challenging to mix more than one batch evenly in one bowl. Also increase the number of sheet pans you spread the popcorn on so that the chocolate can dry well. Use three sheets for a double recipe and four sheets for a triple recipe.

FAQs

How long does White Chocolate Churro Popcorn last?

It will last for 1-2 weeks when stored properly. Store it in an airtight container or zippy bag and keep at room temperature.

At what occasions can I serve this popcorn recipe?

This popcorn is an excellent treat to serve at parties and holiday celebrations. Here are some ideas to get you started: baby showers, birthday parties, game nights, drive-in movie nights, Valentines Day, Easter, Fourth of July, Halloween, Fall festivals/parties, ugly sweater party, Christmas gift exchange, New Year's Eve celebrations…. The list could go on forever!

How can I give this popcorn a festive flare?

This recipe is really a blank slate that can be easily spruced up for your next party. Once the cinnamon sugar mixture is added to the popcorn, add an extra drizzle of melted white chocolate (you won't need much) and then sprinkle in mix-ins that fit the occasion. Here are some fun ideas:
- Fourth of July: red, white, and blue m&m's or star sprinkles. The sprinkles we use on these 4th of July Cookies would be great.
- Easter: pastel colored m&m's
- Halloween: orange and black jimmies (sprinkles)
- Christmas parties: small chunks of white chocolate and dried cranberries
- Movie or game night: Reese's Pieces or mini marshmallows
- Birthday parties: fun mixed sprinkles that coordinate with the color scheme (Fancy Sprinkles are a great option)

Tips and tricks

  • Place spoonfuls of white chocolate across the top of the popcorn instead of pouring it all in one spot. This will help it distribute more evenly while mixing.
  • White chocolate cools quickly and loses its stickiness fast. Add the cinnamon sugar mixture while the chocolate is still warm to help it stick well.
