How to make hot honey butter
Before whipping up this spicy butter make sure your butter is at room temperature. To see if the butter is ready gently press your finger into the butter. If it does not leave much of an impression, the butter is too cold. If it goes in with just a touch of resistance towards the middle it is perfect!
Place all ingredients into a medium bowl. If it is a small bowl the mixing process will be messy.
Alternatively, it can be made in a stand mixer.
Beat with hand mixer on low for 1 minute. Slowly increase the speed to medium and whip for 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy. You can serve immediately or see below for how to refrigerate or freeze.
Hint: After refrigerating, allow the butter to come to room temperature before serving.
How to store spicy compound butter?
Spicy compound butter can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Allow the butter to come to room temperature before serving.
Can I freeze whipped hot honey butter?
Yes, hot honey butter can be frozen. Roll it into a log shape and tightly cover with plastic wrap or wax paper. Place inside a freezer bag and store for up to 6 months.
Allow to come to room temperature before serving. However, if you need a bit of the frozen one in a pinch, unwrap and carefully slice off a thin pat from the frozen log. It will come to room temperature quickly.
Tips and tricks
- Make sure butter is room temperature before mixing. When pressed gently the butter should leave an imprint with just a touch of resistance towards the middle. If the butter is too cold it won't incorporate with the other ingredients.
- To increase spiciness level mix butter with a bit of cayenne pepper, red chili pepper flakes, or your favorite hot sauce.
- Start beating the butter on low before increasing the speed to medium in order to keep it in the bowl.
Serving ideas
- Spread on dinner rolls.
- Smear on warm cornbread.
- Slather on warm corn.
- Melt over steak.
- Toss over crispy chicken wings.
