This 2-ingredient Honey Butter Syrup is amazing on pancakes, waffles, and french toast. It’s an all-natural alternative to pancake syrup ready in under two minutes.

Honey and butter? Can it really be that delicious? Ohhh yes! I feel a little self conscious sharing a recipe that only has two ingredients and is so easy to make, but it is so good that I can’t keep it to myself.
If you are looking for a way to eat pancakes without traditional syrup or if you are tired of maple syrup this is a delicious alternative. Another crave-worthy option is this triple berry sauce. I have just convinced myself that this weekend requires a pancake breakfast!
As a little girl, when I would go to my grandma’s house, she would always serve pancakes with this honey butter syrup. She always made buckwheat pancakes, but my favorite way to eat it is on cornmeal pancakes made with Jiffy mix. I haven’t tried it yet myself, but I also plan on pouring it on this cast iron cornbread. I bet it’s amazing!
The mini glass jar featured in these pictures can be found at Crate and Barrel. It doesn't make the syrup taste any better, but it certainly is cute.

Ingredients for honey butter syrup
- Butter: I use salted butter, but if you use unsalted you can just add a pinch of salt into your syrup.
- Honey: Regular or raw honey are both delicious in this recipe.
How to make honey butter syrup
Honestly, this almost isn’t a recipe, it’s more of a method. Place the honey and butter in a microwave safe measuring cup or a pan for the stovetop and heat until melted. Give it a good stir to combine. That’s it!
The only thing to keep in mind is that it can boil over in the stove or microwave, so heat it gently and heat it in a large enough vessel.
It can sit out for a little bit but as it cools down it will begin to stiffen. Once it’s cold it gets very thick (almost solid) so be sure to serve it on the warm side.
For a crowd
This alternative pancake syrup is perfect for serving a crowd, and would be a great option for a pancake or waffle bar. Depending on how large of a crowd, I would melt as much as was needed just before serving. However, if you need to keep it warm for any length of time, I would melt it in a slow cooker and keep it on warm throughout serving time. Or you can melt it and add it to an insulated carafe to keep it warm.
FAQs
This honey syrup will last for a couple weeks in the refrigerator, however it will get thick. Make sure to warm it gently before serving.
The term healthy is a little subjective, however it is much less processed than traditional pancake syrup that contains corn syrup and artificial ingredients so I put it in the healthier category. In moderation honey butter syrup is a good all-natural alternative for pancakes, waffles, and french toast.
