- Water: Necessary for getting perfectly tender rice grains.
How to cook Jasmine rice on the stove

For this stovetop method, start by putting the cup of rice in a strainer and rise until the water mostly runs clear rinsing off excess startch. Make sure to allow the excess water to drip off shaking it lightly.

Add the rinsed rice, just over cup of water, and salt to a pot. We lie to use a pot with a clear glass lid which makes it easy to see what is happening inside. Cook over medium-high heat, until it comes to a fast simmer. It should not boil but it will be close.

Turn the heat down to low heat - it should be at a gentle simmer and cook for 10 minutes. Resist all temptation to remove the lid. We want all that moisture to stay in the pot.

Take off the heat but leave the lid on for 10 more minutes. Remove the lid, then take the times of a fork and run them back and forth over the top for perfectly fluffy white rice.
Hint: Letting the rice sit in the pan with the lid on gives the steam time to work its magic, so it makes perfect jasmine rice every time. It is a great step when making classic rice pilaf, but not applicable to this recipe.

How to store cooked jasmine rice

Can you reheat jasmine rice?
Yes, you can totally reheat jasmine rice. Our go-to method is the microwave - quick and easy. Just put the amount you need on a microwave-safe plate, then sprinkle a little water over the top. I like to wet my clean hand and let the water drip off my fingers onto the rice. It is just enough moisture without being too much. Cover it to lock in the moisture, then heat in 30-second bursts until warm. For more ways to do it, check out our step-by-step instructions on how to reheat rice.

FAQs
Strictly speaking rice does not need to be rinsed, but we prefer a quick rinse just to ensure that the extra starches come off before cooking. A small step that helps ensure that the rice is fluffy and not mushy. Well worth the effort.
When cooking rice as a plain side dish there is no need to toast the rice, that is a technique used when cooking flavored rice dishes like pineapple lime rice, coconut rice, or even cranberry rice.

Tips & tricks
- Rinsing isn't strictly required, but I prefer it, even a quick rinse.
- Stick to medium high when bringing to a boil. Higher makes it more mushy.
- Adding salt is optional, but I think it adds needed flavor.
